Section 15 - Qualification of Candidates in Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964

Qualification of Candidates.

(1) Every person whose name is in the list of voters for any of the 1 [wards] of the 1 [municipal area] shall, unless disqualified under this Act or any other law for the time being in force, be qualified to be elected at the election for that 1 [ward] or any other 1 [ward] of the 1 [municipal area] and every person whose name is not in such list shall not be qualified to be elected, at the election for any 1 [ward] of the 1 [municipal area]:

Provided that a person shall not be qualified to be elected, --

(a) to a seat reserved for Scheduled Castes 2 [or Scheduled Tribes] unless he is a member of any of those castes or tribes; and

2 [(aa) to a seat reserved for Backward Classes, unless he is a member of such classes.]

(b) to a seat reserved for women unless such person is a woman.

(2) Subject to any disqualification incurred by a person, the list of votersshall be conclusive evidence for the purpose of determining under this section whether the person is qualified or is not qualified to vote or is qualified or is not qualified to be elected, as the case may be, at an election.
