Section 247 of Indian Penal Code, 1860
Fraudulently or Dishonestly Diminishing Weight or Altering Composition of Indian Coin.
Whoever fraudulently ordishonestly performs on 1 [anyIndian coin] any operation which diminishes the weight or alters thecomposition of that coin, shall be punished with imprisonment of eitherdescription for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also beliable to fine.
