Section 18 - Term of Office of Councillors in Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964

Term of Office of Councillors.

1 [(1) The term of office of a councillor, --

(a) elected at a general election shall be 2 [five years];

3 [Proviso x x x]

4 [(b) nominated under clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 11 shall, subject to the pleasure of the Government be five years.]

4 [(1A) The term of office of the councillor elected at a general election or nominated in clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 11 shall commence on the date appointed for the first meeting of the municipal council.]]

(2) The term of office of a councillor elected 5 [x x x] 6 [x x x] to fill a casual vacancy shall continue so long only as the councillor in whose place he is elected 7 [x x x] would have been entitled to hold office if the vacancy had not occurred.

4 [(3) Not withstanding anything contained in this Act, where two thirds of the total number of councillors required to be elected have been elected the municipal council shall be deemed to have been duly constituted under this Act.]
